TEETERING THE LINE
May 21 2021 - Jun 10 2021
A Solo Exhibition featuring the works of Dan Drossman
Artist Dan Drossman has only been in Denver for 3 years but is starting to make his mark on the art scene. In addition to recently launching The Waiting Room Gallery in RiNo, he has been hard at work creating a new mixed media series for a solo exhibition at Bitfactory Gallery, 851 Santa Fe Dr. Teetering the Line opens with a reception on May 21st from 6-9 pm and runs through June 10, 2021. In this show he adds another layer to his paintings by incorporating elements of collage—bits and pieces, also of his own creation, but in other mediums and styles. The result blurs the line between past and present, conscious and unconscious, paint and collage, inviting the viewer to discover the detail in each piece. In addition to the reception, visitors are invited to view and purchase work Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 am until 4 pm, and by appointment. Masks are required for entry and social distancing is encouraged. Bitfactory Gallery will be open 6-9 pm on Friday, June 4th for the First Friday Art Walk.
Drossman’s process starts with the base of a fresh abstract painting. He then takes old works of his, photos, paintings and drawings that are of little significance to him as a stand-alone piece and cuts them up. The bits – be they figurative or abstract- are incorporated into different stages of his painting. The process is meditative and intuitive, reflecting on his past while building possibilities for the future. As many of his older works (a few of which will also be on display) depict the chaos and angst of being in physical pain, Drossman finds encouragement in repurposing memories and other chapters of life and blurring the line into a positive, more colorful outlook.
Drossman grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, received his BA from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, and holds an MFA from The School of Visual Arts in New York. He is represented by Ruler Art in New York City and his works have been exhibited at David Zwirner Gallery in NYC, Open Air Museum in Sardinia, Italy and many other solo and group exhibitions throughout New York, North Carolina and Denver. He works out of a studio in Bitfactory Studios on Santa Fe Dr.
