A great way for artists to expand their reach to other markets and for gallery owners to discover new talent, is through juried exhibitions. In this process, artists submit work online or in-person to be considered for inclusion to a specific show by one or several jurors. Earlier this year, Bitfactory gallery in Denver Colorado put out an online call-for-entries announcement to gather submissions from around the U.S. for first it’s juried exhibit! There were no theme requirements specified, allowing artists to submit up to three of their best, recently created, 2-D original artwork for consideration. Of the 206 entries submitted, pieces from 21 artists were selected to be shown November 15, 2019 – January 9, 2020 in the exhibit entitled REACH, at Bitfactory Gallery, 851 Santa Fe Drive. The public is invited to an Opening Reception on November 15, 6 to 9 pm and to view and purchase work during regular gallery hours Tuesday through Saturday 11 am to 3 pm, and by appointment. The opening event will also include a talk by Juror, Brenda LaBier and an awards presentation.
The REACH exhibit represents the impressive diversity of entries reviewed by Juror Brenda LaBier. She states:
“Whether abstract or representational, conceptual or narrative, the works chosen, reveal a level of technical accomplishment, distinctive aesthetic voice, and a desire on the artists’ part to further the discourse of their chosen medium. Selections resonated with my sense of the medium tempered with a curiosity about the ideas and understanding that fueled their creation. Although non-thematic, I feel that the submissions reflected on the current state of our world, seemingly, turning back to nature and personal healing.”
LaBier currently serves as the Director of Estate & Gift Planning for the Joellyn T. Duesberry Collection and Estate and continues with special projects with Michele Mosko Fine Art. Formerly the Curator of MOCA in Virginia, she curated and designed over 60 contemporary art exhibitions encompassing diverse concepts, media, and artistic styles and authored or contributed to several accompanying publications. Prior, as the Curatorial Administrator for the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles, LaBier organized and traveled with exhibitions nationally from the collection, executed collections management and sculpture conservation project.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and by appointment. For additional information please contact Bill Thomason at [email protected] or (303) 862-9367.
