Jeff Fierberg captures food and cultural markets across the world in Month of Photography Exhibition
MRKT at Bitfactory Gallery, March 1-29, 2025
Bitfactory Gallery at 851 Santa Fe Drive is proud to present MRKT a Month of Photography exhibition featuring images by Denver artist Jeff Fierberg, March 1 – March 29, 2025. The exhibition is a love letter to the chaos, color, and beauty of food and cultural markets across the world. The public is invited to view and purchase work during regular gallery hours, Tuesday-Sunday, 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. The photographs on view in the gallery are printed on metallic paper or airplane-grade metal and will be sold as one of one editions. Prints are available for pre-sale on the gallery website www.bitfactory.net starting Feb 3, 2025, and can be ordered throughout the show so buyers can select their favorite image in the size and material that best suits them.
Over one year, Fierberg traversed England, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Mexico, Spain, South Korea and Vietnam, capturing daily life in wet markets, tianguis, hill markets, and other cultural epicenters to explore a disappearing yet vital thread in the fabric of our shared humanity. He documents still moments within these living, breathing “organisms”, pulsing with commotion and life-affirming energy. The markets are not just places of trade but are sacred spaces where the stories of food, culture, and community are both lived and preserved.
“Each photograph in this series is a tribute to the textures, rhythms, and humanity of these markets, but also to the ritual and the centuries of trade and toil. Whether it’s the smoky corridors of Mercado 20 de Noviembre in Oaxaca or the kaleidoscope of color in the Mapusa Friday Bazaar in Goa, these images aim to honor the resilience of these spaces and the people who bring them to life. This series isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about survival. The people, the smells, the sounds—they tell the story of who we are and where we come from. They’re not just part of our history; they’re a lifeline to something raw and real in a world that’s increasingly plastic and sterile.”
– Fierberg
When not behind a camera in city streets or restaurant kitchens, Fierberg meticulously photographs brand stories for his clients, including Id Est, The Tourism Board of Japan, The Nobu Group, Meow Wolf, Mission Workshop and Corvus Coffee, for his company Bowery Creative Dept where he serves and Owner and Creative Director. Storytelling and cameras have been an influential throughline in Fierberg’s life, from growing up in newsrooms, studying filmmaking and film theory at the University of Colorado, Boulder to establishing his successful creative agency. Beyond his professional photography endeavors, he has presented at Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival (MVIFF), lectured several panels on storytelling and brand building and debuted a virtual reality experience at Redline Contemporary Art Center. His most recent exhibitions include the solo shows of Shibui and Konbini at Dairy Block, a series showcasing the dichotomy of macro-Japanese cultures and micro-Japanese convenience store culture.
