In D’Anna’s work it becomes very apparent, very quickly that capturing the light is an essential aspect. Its elusive quality can transform a cityscape or a landscape , daytime or nighttime, in just a matter of a few brush strokes. D’Anna seems to effortlessly capture the light perfectly in every composition. Working with a palette knife, expressing the cityscapes and landscapes he paints in bright, vivid colors. Making bold choices in perspective, light and focus. Every canvas tells a distinct story and has a life entirely its own. The rich flashes of color D’Anna uses, make the viewer feel warm and welcomed into the vast expanse of the story he is trying to tell with every canvas. D’Anna makes even the nighttime cityscapes he paints seem airy and inviting. To paraphrase Matisse “…art should be like a good armchair to rest from physical fatigue”. D’Anna’s work is just that; an accessible, familiar place in which to take a respite if only for a few fleeting moments.
