Bitfactory Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition of new works. The Some Assembly Required exhibit will run from December 1, 2017 through January 5, 2018 with an artist reception Third Friday, December 15th from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

Three artists will be featured in the exhibit: Art by 13, Jason Cope, and Perle. All three, in some sense, are assembling their pieces for this show. Cope works painting found objects, Art by 13 assembling the ideas and images of her paintings, and Perle is building acrylic shadow boxes for a completely original display of her digital imagery. There is a commonality of abstraction that runs through all three artist works with pop art overtones included by Art by 13. Yet at the same time, the glaring difference in the works styles actually creates an easy to follow thread throughout the exhibit. Cope, working with a very dark, melancholy palette, paints and molds pieces of found, everyday objects into fantastic 2D and 3D paintings is beautifully offset by Perle’s bright, vivid palette which moves and twists her manipulated and painted on digital imagery into surrealistic, technology driven statements about society as a whole. Art by 13 stands as a kind of bridge between the two as she spans the palette gap by using both dark and bright colors in every painting giving her the keen ability to mix imagery from Pop, Modern and Abstract art into paintings that tell poignant, socially relevant stories.

Jason Cope is a self taught artist based in Denver, Colorado. His work is influenced by the unknown, the unseen, and this strange phenomenon we call existence. Working somewhere between collage and assemblage, he creates scenes of complex systems that drive and destroy this vast ecology of nature and ourselves.

Cope – ” I do believe society and it’s relation to the natural world is becoming more and more polarized. We live within a system of reoccurring patterns that are sometimes predictable, but mostly chaotic. Our thoughts are trained to believe nature revolves around us. Which leads society to behave in a way that is unreasonable and unacceptable towards this planet we all live on.”

Art by 13 uses a vast array of mediums and techniques to achieve an unending variety of visual effects. Mediums explored include but not limited to acrylic, watercolor, oil sticks, spray paint, and ink. Music, icons, history, literature, painters, and Jungian psychology set the tone of the project. These works exist between tragedy and humor, truth and fiction, insecurity and self validation. This artistic endeavor seeks to nonverbally question the artist and the audience.

Art by 13 – ” my artwork is highly influenced by current events, social matters, and my unique outlook on the internal and external world as I see it.  Jungian psychology has been the most recent inspiration for the work and it is my belief that these concepts will be recognized either consciously or subconsciously by the audience, therefore creating a connection that is further proof of a collective unconscious.  These concepts transcend time and place.  Until we further invest our energies into understanding the human mind, we are in grave danger.  I believe that society as a whole is a sort of conglomerate representing the contents of the human psyche, and not to be discarded, the shared human DNA that is genetically passed through the generations.  The zeitgeist of our time is a direct product of the environment and evolution of man.  One cannot exclude religious influences and ancient ideas.  I have come to the conclusion that at the center of life is a game littered with irony and humor.  I intend to act this out in my work and allow others to take in their own unique ideas.  My artwork is simply an attempt to reach out and challenge long held beliefs by creating a visual world that is both whimsical and recognizable as a deviation from traditional art. ”

Perle has learned from local fine artist Ravi Zupa and world renown digital artist Android Jones and has studied art and design for a decade. She looks for inspiration in the natural world, in feelings, in touch, in sound, in emotion, and in sight. She integrates emotions & nature with the technological world into images that evoke something ethereal & otherworldly.

Perle – ” All of the pieces I’ll be showing were originally photographs of nature that I digitally distorted and painted, exploring the relationship between technology and nature and how their relationship is changing the eyes and habits of society.”

The Some Assembly Required exhibit will run through January 5, 2018. The artists will be present at the artist reception Friday, December 15th from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and by appointment.
